Mott Community College is a comprehensive community college that initially opened as Flint Junior College in 1923. The college offers a full suite of workforce development programs, one year certificate programs and two year Associate degree programs. The college is active in the community supporting both economic and workforce development initiatives, community building, literacy, and more. The college is also active in numerous regional, state and national efforts dealing with student success, completion and retention, STEM, workforce talent development, skills gaps, entrepreneurship and many advanced technology programs. In 2011 Mott was recognized by the Aspen Institute as one of the 10 best community colleges in the nation.
Mott is one of the eight colleges participating in the M-CAM initiative. M-CAM represents a multi-college integrated approach to workforce and talent development by providing the best level of service to the individual and the employer. M-CAM focuses on training individuals with the skills needed for success and the credentials to document those skills. Employers working with Mott will have access to the talent they need to sustain their businesses and embrace the technology needed to thrive.
Mott focuses on providing individuals with the skills required for success in today’s advanced manufacturing workplace. By working closely with industry partners, programs are designed to include problem-solving, critical thinking, troubleshooting and core technical skills that lead to successful careers in manufacturing. Education and training opportunities exist in production, welding, CNC machining, automation/mechatronics and product development using Mott’s digital fabrication and prototyping lab (FabLab). Mott’s team also provides career coaching and job placement services to insure students understand the many career options available to them.
The welding program at Mott prepares students for a broad spectrum of careers as engineers in welding, manufacturing, application, sales, and project management.
Mott works closely with Genesee Thumb MI Works, local secondary schools, community based organizations and others to connect individuals with training and training with employment. Mott also works with employers to provide employee assessments and develop customized training programs for new and incumbent workers.
